I love using my slow cooker. Over the weekend my dad had a craving for pulled pork. So early Sunday morning I put a five pound piece of pork loin into the slow cooker. To that I added two cups of very strong coffee and a 1/4 of barbeque sauce. The flavors together sound strange but really work together. I set it to cook for six hours. It turned out absolutely perfect. The pork separated very nicely and made an incredible sandwich. My dad prefers more barbeque sauce (he added a bit more on top) but said the flavor with the coffee was really good (better than he had expected).

I recently modded my Mazzer Major with a funnel. Along with all of the convenience of no longer having to deal with a doser, I am also experiencing the torment of a new sort of problem- static. To sum up the problem, when I turn on my grinder, the grinds stick to the side of the funnel and do not drop into my portafilter. It is a pain, and worse, it causes a whole lot of waste.

One of the minor annoyances of being a stay-at-home worker in a town that doesn't have much of a coffee culture is that people just don't get you. I mean, they really don't get you. When you start talking about flavor nuances and water temperatures and the relative benefits of a Beehive vs. a Clever, their eyes glaze over. And heaven forbid you want to figure out exactly WHAT that little hint of flavor is that you can't identify. "What do you taste?" you ask. "Uh... coffee?" Well, I'm totally tickled this morning to announce that I've come up with the solution to the problem: I raised me a homegrown coffee geek!
